April 18 – August 18
Children take a hayride to the nature trail where the guide leads participants on a half mile trail beginning at Cattail Creek. The children learn about the forest and how it protects our streams and environment. We’ll explore how the forest is home to wildlife and how we can use our forest resources while conserving the environment. We” search out animal tracks and signs and learn the names of several trees, (at least 5), and how their resources are used on the farm. As with all our programs, we can adapt the information to the children’s age group. If you wish, we can add on a scavenger hunt in the forest for an additional $1.00/child. Children return back to the barn and visit the farm animals and feed the goats, rabbits, pigs and chickens!
Optional: At the teacher’s request, we can provide leaf I.D. sheets for the children to take home. Children will learn how to identify at least 5 major trees using key plant characteristics Request I.D. sheets when scheduling your tour.
